Our Chorus
Leadership

The Heart of Maryland Chorus thrives because of the energy and style of the people who have stepped up to lead. Here are a few of the people that make our ensemble tick:

Karen Collins - Director

Karen Collins is a retired music educator who taught choral music in Montgomery County for 31 years. She has directed choirs and led worship at various churches throughout Montgomery and Howard counties and recently received her Director Certification from Sweet Adelines International. Karen joined the Heart of Maryland in May 2005 and became director in November 2007. Her belief is that if our singing is just about great barbershop vocal skills, but does not come from "within", it will be just a performance instead of music that opens the heart and touches the soul.  We are delighted to have her as our director!

Marsha Adelson - President

Marsha Adelson has been a member of the Heart of Maryland Chorus for 10 years and is a Past President. She is a retired Federal Employee and works as a Washington, DC Tour Guide when she's not singing with the chorus or with her quartet, Hearts Content.  She believes the comraderie of the chorus is just as important as the quality of our performance, and hopes that the Hearts continue to grow not only as a musical group, but also as a sisterhood of love and support.
